Over the span of 23 years, ScSEED has sponsored so many community efforts to create a better life in Saguache County. From planning strategies, facilitating community meetings, surveys and data collecting, writing grants, building partnerships and networking across the Valley and beyond, hosting the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, publishing local assessments and historic brochures, downtown revitalization projects, environmental clean-up and preservation, healthy living efforts, youth education and recreation, economic development programs encouraging local shopping, recording and preserving rural lifestyles for posterity; all the way to acting as a fiscal sponsor and non-profit umbrella for community groups.  

ScSEED HISTORY:

Creation of the ScSEED Strategic Plan

Developed a local currency, Mountain Money in partnership with Saguache County Credit Union

Published the Saguache Business Resource Guide 

Installation of the Saguache Airport Weather Station

Partnered with youth from area schools through Center School's Pilots for Prevention to put in the Skatepark

CRECE - the Center Recreation and Education Community Effort

The Ranching History and Heritage Video Project for Valley schools

Public Forum events to receive input on strategic direction

Hosting an annual Ranching Celebration in Story, Song and Poem

Pancake Breakfast at the Crestone Music Festival and then Crestone Energy Fair 

Kerber Creek Restoration Project 

Partnered with the Town of Saguache on the Dave Martinez Park

Sponsored the Sign for the Vista Grande Park North of Saguache

Participation in the SLV Development Resources Group's Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) every 5 years

Host the Wild and Scenic Film Festival, featuring social and environmental documentaries and preserving our precious water and land

Creation of the Saguache County Heritage Map

A walking Tour self-guided booklet of the Historic 4th Street Business District

The Saguache Downtown Beautification Project with the Town of Saguache

The Saguache Hwy 285 Beautification and Safety Project with the Town of Saguache

Fiscal sponsorship for Saguache County entities doing mission aligned work in the County

Today, ScSEED sponsors the Crestone Energy Fair, SLV Seed Exchange, Crestone Community Garden, Saguache Seniors, Saguache Streetscape, Crestone Artists and the Wild & Scenic Film Festival.

Background Statement

ScSEED- Saguache County Sustainable Environment and Economic Development is a grassroots organization since 1999, when local stakeholders came together to develop strategies to guide the growth and maintain the rural character of Saguache County.

Strategy #1: Encourage the communities and people of Saguache County to work together for mutual benefit.

Strategy #2: Develop small businesses and cooperative enterprises that sustainably use and add value to Saguache County resources.

Strategy #3: Preserve and protect the environmental health of Saguache County.

Strategy #4: Increase lifelong health care, educational, vocational, recreational and social options in Saguache County.
