Background Statement

Classical Five-Element Acupuncture, or CF-EA, is a powerful healing discipline, grounded in the laws of nature, that balances all levels of a person - the body, the mind, and the spirit. ITEA trains students to diagnose the state of clients by discerning energetic harmony and disharmony through subtle and highly refined observational cues of color, sound, odor, and emotional content. This tradition was practiced by the ancient Chinese, and ITEA honors this history with a spiral approach of learning where oral tradition concepts and ideas are visited again and again from different viewpoints and from increasingly greater depths.

Interns in their 3rd and 4th year of the program work with clients in our student clinic, supervised by highly trained and experienced faculty. Community members attend our clinic for treatment and many find that CF-EA not only provides relief from specific conditions but also improves their sense of well-being, including increased energy, improved sleep, and reduced stress. Most Wednesday evenings, our interns host a free acupuncture treatment clinic for Veterans as a way to honor veterans and give back to our Colorado community.

Founded in Colorado in 1996, the Institute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. In 2003, ITEA was granted candidacy status by the Accreditation Commission of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). In 2006, ITEA was authorized by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) to issue graduates the degree of Master of Acupuncture in Classical Five-Element Acupuncture.
