This year, I had the opportunity to join more than 100 women of all ages on a trip to Colorado Women’s Day at the State Capitol. We spent the day meeting with our state and local legislators, learning firsthand how policy gets made, and speaking up about the issues that shape our communities. That experience lit a fire in me—it reminded me how powerful it is when women show up, get involved, and support the organizations doing the work on the ground every single day.
That’s why I’m supporting YWCA Boulder County, and why I hope you’ll consider joining me.
For more than 100 years, YWCA Boulder County has been advancing a mission I care deeply about: eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. As part of a national and global network of YWCAs, our local chapter provides essential programs that directly support women, children, and families in our community.
YWCA Boulder County programs include:
Persimmon Early Learning: providing affordable and accessible Colorado Shines Level-4 rated child care and family services for children ages 8 weeks to 6 years. Persimmon helps families to be economically self-sufficient.
Racial Justice & Equity Programs: promoting and providing opportunities for economic advancement, education and career opportunities, and equity for all women and girls.
- YW+A - a mentoring program that supports local high school students of color with culturally responsive mentoring and role models to help them develop the skills and confidence to graduate high school and pursue post-secondary education.
- Reading to End Racism - an intergenerational literacy program that empowers 1st-5th graders to identify, understand, and discuss racism, and use their power to help stop it. Our volunteers read in classrooms at many local elementary schools.
- STEM E3 - a hands-on, real-world STEM program emphasizing education, employment, and entrepreneurship, primarily for young women of color in 5th thru 8th grades. Companies like Google, Medtronic, Hologic, and Veolia Water Technologies have hosted hundreds of middle school girls.
YWCA Boulder County is making a difference today, and we will continue to strengthen and expand our impact in the future.
