For the past 100 years, YWCA Boulder County has been at the forefront of the most critical social movements to help women, children, and families of all backgrounds thrive. We provide services such as high-quality, affordable and flexible child care; racial justice and equity programs including youth empowerment, youth and adult education; and advocacy.
As an inclusive, secular nonprofit organization, we are publicly funded, not affiliated with any religious group, and welcome people of all backgrounds and genders to participate in our important work. YWCA Boulder County is a federated organization with sister YWCAs across the United States and the world.
Your Support Makes a Difference by funding our programs:
•Persimmon Early Learning (formerly Children’s Alley), offering affordable, high-quality child care, including drop-in, short-term, permanent and emergency care for families with nowhere else to turn
•STEM E3, a program helping to make future STEM careers a reality for 5th - 8th grade youth and girls of color
•Reading to End Racism (RER), a K-8 program designed to eliminate racism, bullying and discrimination through literature and discussion
•Latina Achievement Support (LAS), a culturally responsive mentoring program that supports local Latina high school students in overcoming systemic barriers to academic and interpersonal success
•Racial Justice & Equity Education trainings for organizations and community members, including our popular How to be Anti-racist Virtual Training for adults
•Advocacy work on the local, state and national level to break down barriers for the advancement and economic sustainability women, girls, and people of color
"I learned so much from Reading to End Racism. I was already a bit aware of what you taught us, but now I am fully aware of why not to judge people by their looks, cultures or religions." - 5th-grade RER participant
"I honestly can't think of where I would be now without the support that I've received. From both my mentors, the LAS program and my peers in the program. It would be really hard to imagine myself in a different place." - Latina Achievement Support program participant.
"This has always been a wonderful community of caring, educated, supportive and artistic teachers. We feel lucky to have this option for quality childcare." - Persimmon Early Learning parent
YWCA Boulder County is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
"We want the world to see women, girls, and people of color the way we do: equal, powerful, unstoppable." - Debbie Pope, YWCA Boulder County's CEO
Throughout its history, YWCA has been at the forefront of most major social movements in the United States as a pioneer in race and gender justice and the empowerment of women. Originally founded as a Christian organization, YWCA has evolved into the non-sectarian social justice organization it is today. YWCA Boulder County is a local association of YWCA USA, receiving strategic support from the National Office.
YWCA Boulder County was established in 1922 by a small group of women who saw a need to organize and take action on social issues concerning women, particularly around housing, employment and child care. YWCA Boulder County's purpose has always addressed the current needs and issues of women in our community. As issues important to women and girls have evolved over the years, YWCA has developed new programs specifically designed for the needs around those issues in Boulder County, including expanding access to affordable child care through Persimmon Early Learning; addressing racial justice and equity issues through youth programs such as Reading to End Racism, Latina Achievement Support, and STEM E3; and advocating for social justice in our community.
