The Vermejo Park Flyathlon raises money for future work benefiting Rio Grande cutthroat trout in NM!

$1,575

raised by 19 people

$1,000 goal

This July, I will be participating in the Vermejo Park Flyathlon, a unique, conservation-minded race that integrates three of the world's greatest activities: trail running, fly-fishing, and craft beer. I have to run 10 miles, catch (and release) at least one cutthroat trout*, and drink a craft beer all in six hours. This will be a huge challenge for me, but the preservation, protection, and maintenance of our irreplaceable public lands, water, and native fish populations are all important to me, and I think they are to you, too.

The premise is simple... run. fish. beer.

And of course, also raise money for a very worthy cause. Thank you very much for considering supporting my Flyathlon fundraiser! As an added incentive, my family has promised to match the first $500 I raise dollar for dollar — they may not be aware of this yet 😁, but I know they support me and Running Rivers! There’s only a month to go, so any donations are appreciated.

Running Rivers is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3). Since 2014,  Since 2014, Flyathlon events have raised nearly $1,000,000 for native trout-related projects completed in cooperation with their conservation partners, including Trout Unlimited, the Western Native Trout Initiative, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.  To explore projects that have been supported with Flyathlon funds over the past 10 years, please visit this link.

*As many of you know, snowpack in much of the western US hit historic lows this winter. As such, the forecast for summer stream flows is already dire, and as responsible anglers, the event may be adjusted to minimize the stress to our fisheries.
