The Buena Vista Optimist Club believes that when a community invests in its young people, everyone benefits.

For decades, the BV Optimist Club has brought people together through volunteer-led events that strengthen community connections while raising funds to support local youth. The Club is entirely volunteer-driven, with members donating their time, energy, and talents to create opportunities for young people throughout Buena Vista and the surrounding area.

Each year, the Club organizes and supports community traditions including pancake breakfasts, the Collegiate Peaks Trail Run, the Great Colorado Texas Tomato War, the Kids Fishing Derby, and the July 4th Pancake Breakfast. These events bring together residents, families, visitors, businesses, and volunteers while generating funds that are reinvested directly into the community.

Donations and proceeds from BV Optimist Club fundraising events are used to support local youth, with a primary focus on scholarships for students pursuing education and training after high school. Scholarships may help students attend colleges and universities, pursue vocational or technical training, earn professional certifications, or participate in other programs that prepare them for meaningful careers and future opportunities.

The Club recognizes that there is no single path to success. For some students, that path may be a four-year university. For others, it may be a community college, trade school, apprenticeship, technical certification, or another form of career training. By helping reduce the financial barriers associated with continuing education, the BV Optimist Club helps local young people take important next steps toward their goals.

The Club's impact begins with community participation. When someone enjoys pancakes on the Fourth of July, registers for the Collegiate Peaks Trail Run, joins the fun at the Great Colorado Texas Tomato War, supports the Kids Fishing Derby, makes a donation, or volunteers at an event, they become part of a larger effort to invest in the next generation.

The events themselves also contribute to the character of Buena Vista. They create opportunities for neighbors to gather, families to make memories, visitors to experience the welcoming spirit of the community, and volunteers of all ages to work together for a shared purpose.

Behind every event is a dedicated group of volunteers. Club members plan activities, prepare meals, organize race courses, coordinate logistics, recruit participants, seek sponsors, award scholarships, and handle the countless details necessary to make each event successful. Because BV Optimist Club is volunteer-led, community support can be directed toward carrying out its charitable mission and expanding opportunities for local youth.

The Kids Fishing Derby reflects the Club's commitment to creating positive experiences for children at an early age. Young people have the chance to spend time outdoors, develop new skills, and participate in a fun community tradition alongside family members and volunteers.

The Collegiate Peaks Trail Run celebrates another defining part of the Buena Vista community: its remarkable outdoor setting. Runners, volunteers, supporters, and visitors come together for an event that combines recreation, community spirit, and philanthropy.

Events such as the Great Colorado Texas Tomato War demonstrate that supporting a good cause can also be fun. Along with the Club's pancake breakfasts and other gatherings, these traditions create opportunities for people to connect while supporting programs that benefit local youth.

At the heart of all of this work is optimism in action: believing in young people and then doing something tangible to help them succeed.

A gift to the BV Optimist Club is an investment in local youth and their futures. Contributions help the Club continue its community events, provide scholarships, and create opportunities that encourage young people to pursue education, training, careers, and lives filled with possibility.

Through volunteer service, community traditions, and direct investment in young people, the BV Optimist Club is helping build a stronger Buena Vista - one event, one scholarship, and one young person at a time.
