Central City Opera (CCO) is a special place for me. While I have only been at CCO for less than a year, the memories I have been will last a lifetime. I've connected with so many incredible people through the organization- including those on stage, backstage, in the pit, and in the office. I've learned so much about marketing in the performing arts industry. I've gotten the chance to pursue something I am deeply passionate about, all the while learning and growing in a supportive environment.
Music and opera connects individuals. Whether it is through attending a performance, participating in a community music workshop, or learning through a training artists program for emerging talent, music brings people together. Now in a time when our world is more divided than ever, we need a place of comfort- where we can share a bit of hope and light during dark times.
A cause close to my heart is music education. Having been involved in music and theater since a young age, I am grateful for the opportunities I have gotten to be a part of. Singing in choir at Denver School of the Arts made me realize that performing music is more than just fun, it is an avenue to create long lasting memories and touch audience's hearts. Words can't really describe how much it meant to me to get to be a part of something so special.
Unfortunately not all students have the opportunity to participate in music education. Central City Opera has a robust Education & Community Programs department that brings music performances, workshops, and residencies to communities across the state. I am proud to work at an organization that offers meaningful programs to students, such as Chiaroscuro, a touring performance of operatic music that explores themes of mental-health, resilience, and humanity. The program is tailored for teenagers and young adults and has already made a significant impact in resonating with young audiences.
I hope you will join me in supporting Central City Opera this Colorado Gives season. By donating, you can make an impact to help sustain these vital education and community programs, like Chiaroscuro.
