You don't get to complain about something if you aren't going to do something about it. Moreover, you don't get to call yourself local unless you give back.
That was the mindset that brought me to WRA. I wanted to protect Colorado and be a part of the place in a deeper way than just skiing or climbing 14ers.
In my lifetime I've seen human impacts hurt the places and things I love. Mining, development, pollution, data centers - the threats are legion. Climate change is a threat multiplier. It makes every other issue we deal with worse. Housing, cost of living, and equity are all linked to climate change.
In Colorado climate issues like drought and wildfire are here. We need solutions today. We are there to find those answers.
Worse - in 2025 our federal government has unwound decades of climate protections - things that have been a place even since before I was born. We are at risk of backsliding at a time when action is more critical than ever.
We are at risk of losing things we will never be able to get back. As someone who believes in protecting the places that I live, I want to be on the first line of defense of protecting Colorado.
And the path to protecting Colorado’s land, water, and air is at the state level. WRA is working to do just that. Already we've stepped in to drive policy plans that patch over places the federal government has rolled back protections. A lot more of that work will be needed going forward.
I count myself as blessed everyday to be able to work at WRA and towards protecting our backyard. I can fish rivers and ski lands that WRA has protected. Colorado is better off for having WRA fighting to protect it.
Climate change and it's impacts are here - we are here to find actionable solutions.
...
So of course, all of this is to ask for money. WRA is non-profit and we're funded exclusively by donations from people who care about our work. Given the scale and magnitude of what we've accomplished (And what we plan to accomplish) that fact is always humbling to me.
There are so many people who care about this work. I'm less asking for money and more asking for support. Join all those people. It doesn’t need to be for much. Just $5 is plenty. It is less than a cup of coffee or a beer after skiing.
I think of it as a cup of coffee for Colorado.
It's a step to protect Colorado and the West.
Help be a part of that.
