$50,000 Goal

If not for WRA, the West would be heading toward a very different future. With your gift, we can change the story.

One of the most powerful ways to fight climate change and protect the West is by shaping policy at the state level—where many of the most important decisions are made for our communities, lands, and rivers. That’s why WRA pairs researchers, attorneys, and policy experts with seasoned advocates who know how to get things done across the region.

Our work focuses on three core areas that shape the West’s future:

  • Accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels and cutting climate pollution.
  • Ensuring the Colorado River and waterways across the West can sustain people and nature.
  • Conserving the landscapes, habitat, and wildlife that make the region unique.

No other organization combines our on-the-ground presence, technical expertise, and proven record of turning bold climate goals into real laws, policies, and utility actions.

But none of this work is possible without you. Together, we’re expanding our efforts, sharpening our focus, and advancing solutions that protect our communities and wild places.

Join us this Colorado Gives Day and your gift will help protect the future of the West we all love.

SUPPORTER VOICES

"We have 3 young kids and giving them a healthy and beautiful world is important to us. We believe climate change is the greatest threat to their future, and we wanted to do something to be part of the solution. We researched buying solar panels but realized that we could leverage our money more effectively by donating to WRA. Also, sharing our good fortune with others is a value we wanted to teach our kids. While it may not be much, this is what we can do now."
- Erica C., Salt Lake City

"Wallace Stegner, novelist and avid Western environmentalist, said that preserving the West's natural resources 'is a means of reassuring ourselves of our sanity as creatures, a part of the geography of hope.' Through its thoughtful, balanced, and expertly implemented strategic vision, Western Resource Advocates brings precisely this reassurance, sanity and hope at such a critical time."
- Carla Hamre Donelson, WRA Board Member

"By leveraging a unique combination of legal, policy, and scientific expertise, WRA offers a thoughtful approach to addressing our era's most pressing environmental issues by working effectively across stakeholder groups to craft mutually beneficial solutions. The result is tangible movement toward a more sustainable future for communities, businesses, and ecosystems in the American West. I'm honored to serve on the WRA Board in such pivotal times."
- Jamie Starr, WRA Board Member

Mission

WRA fights climate change and its impacts to sustain the environment, economy, and people of the West.

Background Statement

WRA works across seven Interior West states – including Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. From the start, we’ve learned that the best results come when we focus on the venues where decisions are made: state legislatures, agencies and commissions, and working directly with utilities, local governments, and municipalities.

For more than 30 years, our team has designed and advocated for practical, evidence-based solutions to the region’s toughest climate and conservation challenges. Alongside community partners, we’ve passed landmark clean energy laws, protected millions of acres of land, and safeguarded thousands of miles of rivers and streams.

Our strategies have evolved over time, but our purpose has not: to protect the West we love today – and for generations to come.
