This April, I will be participating in the Western North Carolina Flyathlon, which is a unique, conservation-minded race event that integrates the world's greatest activities running and fishing.
About the event:
The Western North Carolina Flyathlon is a fundraising event for coldwater conservation projects, with a focus on the Southern Appalachian brook trout. We will be raising money through the Colorado-based 501(c)(3) organization, Running Rivers. Rest assured that funds raised through the WNC Flyathlon will be spent on projects in North Carolina!!!

The run takes place on April 25th and is 6 mile out-and-back course with approximately 1900 feet of elevation gain. During the race I will stop along the Green River and attempt to catch a fish!
Why am I doing this?
Fishing has been my lifeline from a young age, providing lessons in patience and joy that shaped who I am today.
Little Nichole holding a Brown Trout
In 2024 Hurricane Helene severely altered the small creeks and streams that the cold water fishes in western North Carolina called home. While it's been a slow recovery, some fish are beginning to return with the help of efforts to restore damaged streambanks, stabilize habitats, and manage hatchery production. However, all these efforts come with a price tag and the region is still finding its new stable state. I am raising money to help build back and conserve these local ecosystems.
In the field of environmental conservation, every dollar counts! Support a cause that has supported me!
Thank you for considering supporting my Flyathlon fundraiser!
