At the heart of the story is Troy Waters, a fifth-generation farmer struggling to keep his land alive amid dwindling resources. His journey is interwoven with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, who have spent decades fighting for access to their legally allocated water rights.
As recreationists and water policy negotiators confront the Colorado River’s uncertain future, the seven basin states, including Colorado, have struggled to reach a unified water-sharing agreement. Without one, federal intervention becomes increasingly inevitable.
Who gets to decide the future of the Colorado River? Can farmers, Indigenous communities, and conservationists find common ground, or will economic pressures dictate the water’s fate?
At its core, Little Salt is built on a commitment to ethical storytelling, transparency, and deep respect for every participant. As critical decisions near, the people who depend on this river face profound consequences. Your support will help us complete post-production and share these urgent human stories while there is still time to shape the conversation.
