As a Board member of Hope Communities, I am committed to supporting their mission of helping vulnerable individuals and families to thrive, 70+ % of whom are refugees from all over the world. The Hope model - providing affordable housing with culturally competent support services from their amazing team of navigators who speak over 20 languages - has been proven to move people from poverty to self-sufficiency, and in many cases to independence and home and business ownership. Some of the families in the photos above, taken by the wonderful Katy Tartakoff, are among those supported by the indefatigable navigator team. As we face uncertainty about a turbulent world and anti-immigrant sentiment at home, I am resolved to focus my efforts on Hope Communities and the rich addition their clients represent for Denver's community as a whole, much as my own immigrant family contributed in the past.
