Taking Steps for Cancer Fund

Taking Steps For Cancer is a group of community members who, in partnership with the nonprofit Mountain Family Center, raises and disperses funds to support Grand County cancer patients with their out of pocket expenses related to treatment. Taking Steps is composed solely of volunteers who sacrifice their time and resources throughout the year.

Taking Steps for Cancer is known in the community for its three signature annual fundraisers: Spirit Polar Plunge, Sagebrush Western Classic Golf Tournament and Taking Steps 5K Walk/Run & Auction. Other festive events include its Parade of Homes and the Gentlemen’s Club Pub Crawl.

Grand County cancer patients incur burdensome medical expenses and often lose income due to missed work. They travel long distances for screening and treatments with specialists. Each client can receive up to $5,000 per year in reimbursement for treatment, or up to $1,500 per year for cancer screening, regardless of income or insurance status.
