Packs of Hope is a 100% volunteer-run non-profit humanitarian organization based in Arvada, Colorado. We engage with the community to bring hope and dignity to children in foster care. Every day, children face the uncertainty of leaving their homes and familiar environments due to neglect, abuse, or other dangerous situations. Many are removed from their families quickly, forcing them to leave with little more than the clothes on their backs. It is our desire, through the help of the community, to provide these children with the resources they need during this traumatic time.
We provide backpacks filled with brand-new clothing, toiletries, a book, and a comfort item for children entering the foster care system. These backpacks are designed to support both the children and their foster parents during the critical first 24 hours of the transition into foster care. Each month, Packs of Hope delivers over 400 backpacks. The backpacks are available for children from newborns to 18 years old, and they are provided at no cost to the counties or the children.
We serve nine counties in Colorado through 19 locations: Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Gilpin, Jefferson, and Weld. Each location, typically the county's Human Services office, maintains at least two backpacks for every size and gender at all times. Packs of Hope replenishes these backpacks throughout the month, ensuring that there are always backpacks available for the children in need.
Packs of Hope also offers one-on-one mentoring to teens who need to be listened to and cared for. These are teens who must fill court ordered community service, and many have no other place to turn to fulfill that requirement. Packs of Hope offers these teens a chance when many others won't, and gives them a place to belong and provides them with a sense of worth. The time spent together nurtures and builds relationships, positively impacting these young lives.
