I serve as the coordinator of the Reach Out and Read program at the Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children’s Hospital Colorado, and I am also privileged to sit on the Board of Reach Out and Read Colorado (RORCO). Through this partnership, we are able to provide brand-new books and literacy guidance to children from birth through age 5. Our families consistently share how meaningful it is to receive these books—gifts that spark joy, offer encouragement, and help them begin reading together from the very start.
The American Academy of Pediatrics highlights how crucial the earliest months and years are for a child’s brain development and early language skills. In fact, they published research showing the particularly positive impact of RORCO on children with Down syndrome.
Beyond the Sie Center, Reach Out and Read Colorado works with more than 330 clinics and 2,000 healthcare providers statewide, ensuring that books and literacy guidance are included at more than 350,000 well-child visits annually.
This year, I’ve committed to raising $1,500 for Colorado Gives Day on December 9th. I hope you will consider supporting Reach Out and Read Colorado to help children like Kincade—and so many others—build a lifelong love of reading and always have a book they adore close by.
With gratitude,
Dee Daniels
