Dave Bahr's Fundraising Page: Supporting Anchor!

I am honored to serve as a board member of the Anchor Center for Blind Children. Honored is actually an understatement. There are times I simply don’t have words for the impact Anchor has had on my life. And if you know me, not having words is something that is rare.

But Anchor needs our help.

Anchor Center for Blind Children is the nationally recognized leader in teaching children with vision, cortical visual, dual sensory (vision and hearing) and co-occurring disabilities during their most formative years of development birth to age five. Located in Denver since 1982, Anchor Center is the only pediatric blindness organization in Colorado dedicated to serving children birth through age 5. Yes, you read that right, The Only One!!! 

 In fact, they are just one of a handful in the U.S.

 When I was there, it was a school focused solely on blind and low vision students. Now, they have expanded to include in person, home visitation, and virtual telehealth services. I was there in 1989-92 (I know, I’m dating myself), it was a relatively small staff of very passionate and patient teachers. That passion and patience is still there, but the staff has grown, a lot! Here are some of the things they do at Anchor and my brief comments on them.

• Evidence-based early intervention and special education;

Which is what helped me and countless others to get where they are today!

• Physical, occupational, speech-language, horticultural, and music therapy;

That’s a lot of therapies and therapists!

• Holistic family support;

Holistic, the name says it all!

• Vision care and assessment;

Super important and so far ahead of anyone in the world!

• Groundbreaking research

That research has now grown to include Cortical Visual Impairment,. Come look at their clinic, it’s really cool!

Since their inception over 40 years ago, their transdisciplinary team has helped thousands of children. I’m just one of those thousands, but I cannot stress the importance of all this work that Anchor does. The services mentioned above are vital in making these children reach heights they themselves have yet to understand. Their families are also integral to Anchor’s success. Anchor’s family support has always been strong and nurturing, I know from personal experience.

So, here is what I propose.
