Patriot Players

George Washington's Patriot Players is the extra-curricular theatre program for GWHS. GW produces two mainstage productions every year, a musical and a play. These can be powerful and thought-provoking as well as entertaining. Titles have included The Laramie Project, She Kills Monsters, The Addams Family, Mean Girls and many more. 

Our productions for the 2025-26 school year are 1984 (Play) in the fall and Urinetown (Musical) in the spring. For the fall play, we will be working with professional composer BC Campbell to create original music for our production of 1984. It is a very ambitious project and elevated educational goal for a high school theater troupe. 

Professionals from the local theatre community are also brought in to mentor the students in set design, costuming, sound, and acting. In addition to their on-stage work, members of Thespian Troupe 1621 have scored the highest marks at the international conference in categories of set design, duo acting, monologue, and costuming. At our last state Thespian conference, 23 students represented the Patriot Players in all levels of competition for both performance and technical work. Another 20 were able to learn from working professionals in workshops of every sort. Many of our students have been awarded scholarships to continue their theatre education at the college level and a number have gone on to work professionally.
