In January, I moved to Denver and started a new job as the Development Specialist for a local nonprofit. The Kempe Foundation focuses on the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. While based in Colorado, Kempe's research reaches nationally. Kempe was founded by Henry C. Kempe, the same pediatrician who defined and exposed child abuse for the very first time.

I have met some incredibly caring and passionate people who live to help others. Supported by groundbreaking research, Kempe is filling the gaps in the child welfare system. One amazing program is a health clinic for foster children. Healthcare is a challenge for those in out of home placement due to frequent doctor and insurance changes, enabling health problems to fall through the cracks. The Kids in Care Settings (KICS) Clinic is a one-stop-shop to give consistent and wholistic care.

Colorado Gives Day is one of our biggest fundraising days of the year. Please consider giving back and donating to Kempe for a future free from child abuse! 💙

The Kempe Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. We work to ensure all children have the opportunity to develop and grow in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment by supporting experts in the field, advocating for children, and engaging with communities. Through partnerships with The Kempe Center, human service agencies, other child-serving nonprofits and funders, we make a difference in the lives of children, families, and communities.

How does Kempe prevent child abuse?

1. Programs. By supporting experts in the field, Kempe runs evidence-based programs that help the most vulnerable. Programs range from mental health in public schools, healthcare for foster children, and mentorships for foster children.

2. Advocacy. Kempe’s policy team works to pass child-focused policies to improve the lives of children in Colorado and beyond. Recent bills that have been supported by Kempe and passed in the Colorado state legislature cover subjects such as mental health of students, maintaining families during child welfare involvement, and supporting foster youth as they age out of the welfare system.

3. Community building. Kempe strives to work alongside other organizations who share missions to end child abuse and protect families. This is accomplished through connecting resources and collaborating on initiatives.

Join me in supporting the Kempe Foundation to create a safer, healthier, and more nurturing environment for children and families. Your support is greatly appreciated!
