This Word of Thanks microgiving campaign is fighting hunger in Southwest Colorado by supporting two small but mighty non-profits feeding Coloradans in need in San Miguel County and the West End of Montrose County: Telluride Angel Baskets and Norwood Fresh Food Hub (Fresh Foundation)
Donations received by the close of this campaign on June 30 will be split equally between these two organizations. Please only use the default one-time gift option in order to facilitate this one-time 50/50 split in donations.
Angel Baskets was started in 1981 and serves low income families in the Telluride area, Norwood, Nucla, Naturita, Paradox and Dove Creek with a food pantry; healthy lunch and snack options for pre- and after-school programs, quarterly food gift cards for seniors; funding for prescriptions and related expenses; and, food, clothing and gifts at the holidays.
Angel Baskets serves approximately 1500 Coloradans per year. Need has risen "pretty dramatically," according to Peter Kenworthy, the non-profit's programs director and only paid employee.
"The cost of living spirals upward and the wages don't accompany it," Kenworthy said.
Fresh Foundation's goal is making quality, and locally grown food more accessible, especially for the most vulnerable community members, while supporting the stability of the small-scale local farms that are often times in vulnerable categories themselves.
Fresh Foundation serves about 1500 Coloradans per year through senior meals, food bags for students, and its food pantry. The non-profit plans to scale up its Pantry Plot Programming, growing food to support its operations as this volunteer-powered organization brings on its first-ever executive director.
"The funding donated through this campaign is hugely impactful for our expansion work," said founder Leila Seraphin. "Representation like this is massive for an organization our size, and we can't thank the public enough for their compassion and contributions."
This Word of Thanks microgiving campaign is a collaboration with the 9Cares Colorado Shares food drive and features partner organizations of Food Bank of the Rockies.
Thank you for your generosity!
