When Gizmo arrived at Cat Care Society, he was a tiny kitten fighting a very big battle. He’d already undergone surgery at another shelter for what was believed to be a congenital intestinal condition. But something still wasn’t right.
Our veterinary team dug deeper. Through ultrasounds and testing, we discovered that one of Gizmo’s kidneys had been severely damaged…so enlarged, it was taking up most of the space inside his abdomen. Our team performed a lifesaving surgery to remove the failing kidney.
One of our veterinary technicians decided to foster him and noticed he was still showing signs of discomfort while using the litterbox.
Gizmo was diagnosed with a rectal constriction, and our team performed procedures to gently break down scar tissue and improve his comfort.
“If you look at Gizmo on paper, this cat is a trainwreck. But then you look at the cat and he’s a normal kitty. He flew through his procedures, bounced right back, he’s super resilient. We don’t just look at what’s going on with the cat on paper. We really value quality of life.” - Dr. Cecily Palamara, Chief Veterinarian
Our team met with Meg, Gizmo’s adopter, to learn about his medical needs and how to care for him.
“Gizmo has been loving life since coming home, eating voraciously, learning how to climb up the jungle gym kitty furniture, watching all the birds, and chasing and annoying his new brother.” Says Gizmo's adopter, Meg.
Gizmo’s story isn’t just about medical care. It’s about collaboration. From veterinary staff and foster caregivers to adoption counselors and generous donors like you, it took a united effort to give Gizmo a second chance.
Every role played a part, each piece fitting together to make it possible.
At Cat Care Society, we see adoption as a partnership.
Thanks to donors like you, we provide not only lifesaving medical care for cats, but also the support new adopters need.
