A vast majority of Scrap Iron Club members are on fixed incomes and have to pay their own way to the nationally tournaments. Scrap Iron Club teams annually receive approximately $5000. About 60% comes from player donation fees and 40% through player club fundraisers and other donations. This team money can only be used for tournament registration fees, approved team safety equipment (such as pitching screens), and uniforms and hats. Teams typically attend 6 to 8 tournaments a year with the registration fees ranging from $500 to $900 each. Team uniforms and hats can last a few years but cost about $1000 per set. Teams need three sets to cover the tournament days. Do the math and one realizes three sets of uniforms and hat purchases have to be expensed over several years.
A new Scrap Iron team, after purchasing uniforms and safety equipment has only enough funds to attend four or five tournaments. The players also have to pay their way to the tournaments and a fee to receive these additional Scrap Iron Club benefits. One of our missions is to increase the availability to seniors to fulfill their vision of playing competitive softball at the highest level, bringing back to them that youthful passion they once had many years ago. This financial hurdle they must overcome can be reduced significantly with a fundraising campaign to support new teams in their initial start-up costs to purchase uniforms.
This fundraising is asking for $9000 for uniforms for three new teams. The donation will not go to the general fund but in a separate account to assist new teams in their uniform start-up costs.
