SCRAP IRON SOFTBALL CLUB
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that helps seniors 50 years and older to remain socially, mentally, and physically active through competitive senior softball. We have expanded since our beginnings in 1992 and are now the largest senior softball club in the United States and probably the world. National senior tournament teams are grouped in five-year increments from 50 to 85 + years old and by four skill divisions. In this way, a players age and skill level is competitive to the teams they play against. Our existence depends on fundraising and charitable contributions and we work hard to make our organization a success.
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive infrastructure and financially support seniors to participate in local, national, and international softball play. Our credence is competitive softball inspires seniors to remain socially and physically active with other seniors of similar age and passions. Softball can strengthen their minds and bodies through the passions they had when they were much younger. It’s much more than a game.
What is our belief?
Many seniors, in relatively good health, need the opportunity to socialize with other seniors of common interest. Softball is a way for seniors to be active physically and mentally, have a reason to challenge themselves to improve their skills, be part of team competition, laugh, feel younger, and have fun. Team sports motivate seniors to improve their health and well-being. We firmly believe seniors playing competitive softball improves and extends their quality of a healthy life.
Why do we need fundraising?
Competing against tournament teams in Colorado and nationally requires funding to support the teams’ registration fees, uniforms, and safety equipment. Other expenses include batting, fielding, and practicing equipment. Players pay their own travel, lodging and other expenses to get to these tournaments. Since most of the seniors are on fixed incomes, costs limit many seniors from affording the opportunity to continue with this passionate lifestyle. Fundraising and sponsorships are the only way to increase this opportunity for many seniors.
What is our 5-year plan?
We plan to increase our fundraising efforts that allows us to double the number of teams which is currently 17 teams. The size of our organization grows proportionally with the amount of our fundraising efforts. One of our goals is to have a national tournament in Colorado, sponsored by Scrap Iron Softball Club. With the help of the community and national softball tournament organizations, we could have a senior softball tournament that would bring a hundred teams (two to three thousand friends and families) to the area for a week. The popularity of the tournament would increase over the years by continued advertising and word of mouth. There are over a thousand senior softball tournament teams in the nation and over 2 million seniors play on softball teams in one form or another. We want to increase their excitement to play on a travelling tournament team in our state and possibly nationally.
The mission of the Scrap Iron Softball Club is to provide a comprehensive infrastructure and support seniors to participate in local, national, and international softball play.
Scrap Iron Softball Club is a non-profit with all members volunteering with no monetary compensation. All fundraising money received supports team participation in tournament registrations, uniforms and safety equipment.
