A single working mother with multiple children living in a dilapidated apartment. A homeless woman whose uncontrolled asthma results in dangerous coughing episodes. A mother who bravely left an abusive relationship and is terrified that her estranged husband is going to track her down.

These are just a few of the very real challenges and struggles of our clients. To make matters worse, they’re all facing food insecurity.

And that’s where we provide a desperately needed safety net.

We are Greater Park Hill Community, Inc., a nonprofit registered neighborhood organization supported by volunteers, individuals, farms, food banks, corporations and businesses, all of which enable our organization to offer numerous free food programs to underserved residents in Park Hill and beyond.

Our free food programs include an  all-volunteer-run Emergency Food Pantry, which provides a three-day food supply based on household size. We allocate 18 visits per year (we’re hoping to increase that number to 24 in 2023) for every registered household, independent of where they live. This year alone, we’ve distributed nearly 10,000 meals and 42,000 pounds of food to more than 1,500 individuals and families.

During the summer and fall months, local farms donate hundreds and hundreds of pounds of fresh produce, which our volunteers distribute at our Free Farm Stand between between May and October.

Our Weekend Food Program aims to fill the nutritional gap experienced by Park Hill students who don’t have enough to eat on the weekends.

Every spring we distribute free Garden in a Box seedling kits to novice and low-income gardeners who need a little assistance to kickstart their vegetable gardens.

And every November, dozens of volunteers assemble and distribute between 350-400 Thanksgiving boxes to in-need clients, elementary school students and low-income apartment residents. Each box is packed with Thanksgiving dinner essentials, plus we include a $20 King Soopers gift card for turkey or protein purchases.

Testimonials

“My wife and I have lived in Park Hill for more than a decade. We joined GPHC seven years ago after our involvement with launching the Park Hill Fourth of July Parade. Since that time, I have also had the great pleasure of serving on GPHC's Board of Governors. We are passionate about serving Greater Park Hill's hungry families through the Emergency Food Bank that is operated by GPHC. We believe strongly in the work that GPHC does, both in the day-to-day programs operated by the office such as the food pantry and garden programs, and in the longer-range interactions that we have with the City including zoning and transportation issues.”

“Very helpful. An important part of Park Hill.”

“Community-facing resources are fantastic!!”

We’re honored to partner with Kyle Clark's A Word of Thanks to raise funds for our crucial food programs. Every single donation is food-restricted and specifically earmarked for our Emergency Food Pantry, Farm Stand, Weekend Food Program, Thanksgiving Giveaway and Garden in a Box. Thank you so much for supporting us and, more importantly, the individuals and families who heavily rely on us for sustained nourishment.
