The Gilpin Art Gallery
"One of the most distinctive galleries in the country "You will find us located inside historic Washington Hall, originally built in 1861 and established in 1864 as the First District Courthouse in the Territory of Colorado, in Central City, Colorado at 117 Eureka Street across from the Central City Opera House. The gallery and art association were established in 1947, and for nearly 79years, the tradition of expanding appreciation and understanding of art has consecutively continued. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you, once you walk up the wooden staircase into the old courthouse, you will be swept away into an architectural delight, stocked with handmade gifts and one-of-a kind artwork in all media. The courthouse room is always reserved for our Colorado members' artwork, while the remainder of the gallery showcases rotating exhibitions year-round. Our primary goals include providing Rocky Mountain artists with the opportunity to present, display and sell their works; and to offer financial and educational support to the RE-1 Gilpin County School art program.
We also offer events to the community like bird house painting and crafts and artist workshops as well as a rental/meeting space for free or a small fee for community and other nonprofits.
