Aaron Watson, Chair of DarkSky Colorado
DarkSky Colorado is the only statewide nonprofit in Colorado dedicated solely to restoring the natural nighttime environment and protecting communities and wildlife from the harmful effects of light pollution. We need your help so we can continue expanding our work throughout the state.
The State of Colorado is providing funding for the Dark Sky Mentor Program. We have already seen a rapid expansion of our dark sky network including new places entering the International Dark Sky Places pipeline to achieve the certification.
We also launched the Colorado Stargazing: Protect the Night educational campaign and are providing free media items like brochures, posters, informational cards, and a suite of videos dedicated to protecting the night in Colorado.
For June of 2023, Governor Polis proclaimed “Dark Sky Month in Colorado.”
Our Lights Out Colorado program provides free educational materials for school teachers to teach students about migrating birds and the perilous impacts of too much artificial light at night.
DarkSky Colorado continues to make the most of our partnership with the Care For Colorado Coalition, attending quarterly meetings and providing content for Monthly Messaging.
The DarkSky organization has completed it's restructuring process, and DarkSky Colorado is now a Colorado 501c3 nonprofit . Also, we have hired a part-time Executive Director - Sarah Tober - to handle our various projects and partnerships, and to run the day-to-day tasks of the organization.
DarkSky Colorado is here to stay. There is so much to do and we need your help. Please contribute so we can continue working to preserve, protect, and improve access to the night throughout the state. Help us continue our mission to protect the night!
