The Alpine Orchestra!

WE ARE THE RESIDENT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

OF THE UPPER ARKANSAS RIVER VALLEY

What do we do?

We perform the classical symphonic repertoire from Vivaldi to Shostakovich.

We provide an educational opportunity for student musicians to participate in our rehearsals and performances. 

We encourage string players  since the school systems have no string programs.  Without strings, there is no orchestra.

We offer 2 scholarships each year to High School seniors who wish to major in Music.

Why do we do what we do?

Our dedicated volunteer musicians come from all walks of life and strongly believe in the power, educational value, and beauty of classical symphonic music.  This music broadens life experience for everyone in the community.

When and where do we perform?

We perform a series of 3 concerts twice a year in November and April at venues in

Leadville, CO,  Salida, CO, and Buena Vista, CO

This year, we've partnered with the Chaffee County Community Foundation and Colorado Gives to raise money for the  continuance and expansion of our  programming.

Our Story

The Alpine Orchestra was founded on May 14, 1991.  Fifteen people attended the first  rehearsal in June 1991 in donated space, with borrowed music and equipment.  The orchestra played its first concert in August, 1991 and became a non-profit 501c(3) in December, 1991.

From those first humble beginnings, the Orchestra has grown into a family of 65+ volunteer musicians. They are residents of Lake, Summit, Park, Fremont, and Chaffee Counties, and range in age from 14 to 83.  Our members include talented, dedicated middle and high school students from local communities, and adults from a variety of professions, with all levels of education and musical experience.
