Wow! Lot's of great updates on Rhett since last year's CO Gives Day. I absolutely love writing these updates each year on his progress and determination.
Rhett started 1st grade this year at the same school. He is loving it! He still has a very supportive IEP with a new 1-on-1 dedicated adult. He started working with Ms A this summer when he got to ride the bus to the 1/2 day summer program. It was only a 6 minute ride but he ran to that bus every morning with a huge smile on his face!
He has already really bonded with Ms A. He has the same classroom teacher, and most of the same kids in his class. He continues to use his AAC device to communicate. He recently typed "I want breakfast sausage" for dinner. I made 7 sausages and he would not share a single bite with Julietta. He ate all of them! ha! He still loves Bluey, dancing to music, jumping and being tickled, shoulder rides from his cousins, a video game called hoppy frog, hanging on the monkey bars, swinging in our new stretchy fabric hammock toy, and he loves "back seat driving"- telling us which way to turn (as if we do not remember how to get to school each day)
I have continued to thrive working for P2P-CO this year! P2P-CO.org I can't imagine doing anything else at this point in our journey. The connections, conversations, and genuine "judgement free" community are fueling me each day. I have recently started an AAC meetup group that meets once an month. Parents and kids (of any age) who use an AAC device meet up and just share successes and practical strategies. I wanted to start a group where Rhett could see other kids sharing their thoughts and ideas on an AAC device just like his.
Rhett continues to keep us on our toes and is constantly amazing us with his steady growth.
It would mean the world to us if you made a small or large donation to P2P-CO this year! Your donation ensures that all Colorado families get the support and resources they need to fiercely advocate for their child with special care needs. The impact of your donation is powerful to families like ours.
Click the blue donate button and change it from "general fund" to "Parent to Parent of CO" from the available options in the dropdown menu so that donation gets added to our total. We currently have 2 generous donors who are matching up to $25 of each donation! So donate today to increase your amount by up to $25!
