As the only domestic violence safehouse in Weld County, A Woman’s Place fills a crucial gap in victims’ services. Since our safehouse opened in 1978, the population of Weld County has tripled. With that growth, the need for services continues to increase (29% increase in crisis calls since last year!) With just 8 bedrooms in our facility, we are severely limited in our ability to meet increasing demands for domestic violence shelter, support and services.
Each year A Woman’s Place turns away 400 individuals (including children!) who are seeking emergency shelter because our safehouse is at full capacity. Our capital campaign project will double our capacity to serve clients. During 2024, we turned away 44 survivors with a variety of health issues (injury due to domestic violence, use of wheelchair, recent knee replacement, and pregnancy restrictions) because we currently only have one ADA accessible bedroom & that room was full. Our capital campaign project will ensure that every bedroom is ADA accessible - increasing the number of accessible bedrooms by 1500%.
Our $7 million capital campaign includes:
Safehouse building which will allow us to provide emergency shelter to 16 families. The location of this building will remain confidential.
Community outreach building which will allow us to provide prevention education as well as crisis advocacy to serve clients who need help but do not need shelter (i.e. abuser was arrested so the survivor can stay in their home). The location of this building will be public, and will allow us to provide services without disclosing location of the safehouse.
We have raised $6 million dollars but need your help to continue growing!
