Construction is Underway!
On Wednesday March 12, Bluff Lake Nature Center hosted the ceremonial groundbreaking for our $8.5M Campus Improvements Project! Wednesday program participants (including Forest School and Outdoor Explorers Homeschool Program) were given the honor of digging the first shovels of dirt, signifying the start of this incredible project.
There have also already been two news stories (Denverite and Front Porch).
Construction is now well underway, so stay tuned for for more updates, and check out our Construction Site Access page for information on how to access the site during construction.
I have the privilege of serving on the board of directors of Bluff Lake Nature Center, a very special place in our community. You may also know my roots are in education and I love birding and bird photography. Anne and I are asking you, our family, friends and colleagues, to join us in an important capital campaign. We are committed to the future of an amazing resource, in the middle of an urban area, to ensure our educational programs and natural areas are sustained for years to come. As a small nonprofit, we rely on donations no matter the amount. Consider giving $5, $10, $50, $100, maybe $1,000 or more. We gave $5,000 because we know how important a project like this is to our community and yours. Explore this page to learn more about Bluff Lake. It's not about us, but the community we serve.
We have been able to make nature accessible to thousands of visitors each year even though we have no utilities, no significant indoor space, no comfortable restrooms and limited ADA accessibility. We know we can do more! Our intent is to build an energy-efficient building to accommodate a welcome center, classrooms, offices, and a community space; provide power and running water; and additional site improvements, including an accessible ramp leading down to the lake and multiple trails.
Did you know that Bluff Lake donors in Colorado can take advantage of the 50% Childcare Tax Credit of up to $100,000 per year, in addition to other state and federal charitable contribution credits? We invite you to visit the campaign page for more information, including other ways to give and tax credit information.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are making a gift of over $1,000, we ask that you consider sending a check to avoid the cost of high fees that would either be covered by the donor or Bluff Lake Nature Center. Checks can be mailed to:
Bluff Lake Nature Center
4760 Oakland St., Suite 200
Denver, CO 80239
Please add "Steve Hebert" and "Capital Campaign" in the memo line.
