Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for taking the time to consider supporting the Kempe Foundation. This organization is truly near and dear to our hearts.

Many of you know that our family fostered children for five years. During that time, we witnessed heartbreaking cases of child abuse and neglect. One child in particular, who we had the privilege to love and care for, endured unimaginable physical abuse after leaving our home. A few short months later, he was tragically killed by members of his kinship family. His death changed our family forever.

For years, we sought justice. While the criminal case eventually came to a close, we saw firsthand how many people and systems that should have protected him ultimately failed. Through our grief, we found the Kempe Foundation and Kempe Center—organizations dedicated to preventing, detecting, and treating child abuse, maltreatment, and neglect.  

Kempe’s mission is rooted in research, advocacy, clinical care, and community collaboration. Their goal is to help ensure every child can grow up safe and healthy.

Over the years, I (Beth) have spent significant time with the incredible staff at Kempe. Their expertise, compassion, and commitment continually inspire me. After losing our foster son and witnessing the gaps in our system, I see Kempe as exactly the kind of organization the world needs.

Alex and I have given annually to Kempe since our foster son’s passing, and last year I was honored to join their Board of Directors because I truly believe in their mission.
