In light of the devastating massacre at the Club Q nightclub in Colorado Springs, I've reflected on how many of my birthdays I've spent at Rainbow (aka LGBT+) bars, and the special places they've built as community hubs.
So, in honour of the 13 (legal) years I've been patronizing Rainbow bars in my life, I'd rather give back this year by supporting the Colorado Healing Fund (an established charity that is activated in support of victims and their families in times of shooting massacres). I've selected this fund because it's a registered charity, so a donation to them can provide a tax credit to US filers, thereby minimizing the effective cost to donors.
I've chosen the goal of $1300 for the significance that my 34th birthday represents the 13 years I've legally spent US Rainbow bars. So rather than buying a drink in my honour, please make a donation instead. I can still make a spectacle of myself, while doing it for a good cause.
