On May 12th, I turn 65 years young—and instead of gifts or a big party, I’m raising $65,000 for caregiving youth.

Across Colorado, young people are caring for parents, grandparents, and siblings every day—while trying to keep up with school and life. In some communities, nearly 1 in 3 students is a caregiver.

They’ve been invisible for far too long.

Through the Colorado Alliance for Caregiving Youth (CACY), we’re changing that—bringing visibility, building partnerships, and recently leading the state’s first Caregiving Youth Lobby Day, resulting in a unanimous resolution in both chambers of the legislature.

But recognition is just the beginning.

The CACY Story

The Colorado Alliance for Caregiving Youth (CACY) began in 2023 with a simple but powerful question from a teen: “What do you do for kids who are caregivers?”

That question revealed a silent crisis — young people across Colorado caring for parents, grandparents, or siblings with disabilities, illness, or daily needs, often with little recognition or support.

CACY exists to change that. Our mission is to empower caregiving youth and their families through education, advocacy, and collaboration—so they can be seen, supported, and thrive.

Why This Matters

Caregiving youth are in every classroom and community, juggling homework, part-time jobs, and caregiving duties. Research shows this can impact attendance, grades, and emotional well-being—but with the right support, these youth grow into some of the most compassionate, capable leaders of tomorrow.

CACY is here to ensure they don’t carry this burden alone.
