Beyond the Classroom

The Mustang Merc began as Mountain Range High School’s resource room, but it has grown far beyond that. Today, it serves as a Resource HUB supporting the entire Adams 12 district and operates as a food bank for students, families, and community members in need.

In October alone, the Merc supported 1,765 individuals, providing access to food, household essentials, and hygiene products, with nearly 3,500 service interactions throughout the month. On average, the Merc distributes 5,000 pounds of food each week, supplying more than 700 meals monthly, along with 3,000 diapers to families with young children. The Merc also provides weekly food boxes to support the district’s Ukrainian and Afghan families, focusing on culturally responsive and nutritious options for the whole family.

Beyond food support, Mountain Range families have access to wraparound services, including assistance with emergency shelters, housing and utility needs, transportation, and connections to additional community resources. The ultimate goal is to help families transition from short-term resource support to long-term stability.

The Merc is more than a Resource HUB, it’s a place of learning, service, and opportunity. Many Mountain Range students develop job-readiness skills through their involvement. Our Significant Support Needs classroom assists two to three periods each day with unpacking, organizing, and distributing food to the community. The Merc also provides a safe and meaningful space for students completing community service hours and employs unaccompanied youth who help during and after the school day.
