Safe Kids Larimer County is a partnership of UCHealth hospitals, healthcare organizations, police, fire, EMS, parent groups, and private individuals committed to preventing childhood injuries, the leading cause of death among children ages 19 and younger. We are a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network made up of over 600 coalitions in 17 member countries.
We have gathered the data and identified the following injury areas as priorities Safe Kids Larimer County and partners focus on:
Child Passenger Safety/Motor Vehicle Safety
Fire and Burn Prevention
Car seat use reduces the risk of death by 71% for infants, 54% for children ages 1-4 and 45% for booster aged children.
Yet, of the children ages 12 years and younger who died in a crash in 2013, 38% were not buckled up. (CDC)
This is why we decided to prioritize child passenger safety. Safe Kids uses a proven education and distribution program which improves child passenger safety by providing car seats and education about proper car seat use to parents in northern Colorado.
