Second Wind Fund

A nonprofit organization

Second Wind Fund believes that every youth at risk of suicide should have access to the mental health treatment they need. We match children and youth at risk for suicide with licensed therapists in their communities, and pay for up to 12 sessions of therapy when there is a barrier to treatment.

Mission

The mission of Second Wind Fund is to decrease the incidence of suicide in children and youth by removing the financial and social barriers to treatment.

Background Statement

Founded in 2002 in response to the tragic deaths by suicide of four teens from the same Jefferson County high school within a nine-month period, SWF was created to remove barriers to mental health support for youth in crisis. Every provider in our network is committed to seeing youth within seven days, providing expedited access to care for youth when they need it most.

To date, SWF has connected more than 10,000 youth in Colorado to life-saving mental health services and has covered the cost of over 70,000 therapy sessions. Our work continues to evolve in response to growing community needs and the mental health challenges facing our youth today. SWF is not just a service; we are a community movement committed to ensuring every young person in crisis can receive timely, professional and compassionate care.
