Help Feed the Heart & Soul of Our Sanctuary Horses
$20 Raised
A Sanctuary for Horses, People and our Planet. Daisy Chain Sanctuary believes we are all perfectly imperfect links in the Daisy Chain of life. Our goal is to adopt handicapped and retired horses and give them a job helping people heal, love and grow in an open, creative and regenerative environment.
"What I really liked about Daisy Chain was how they taught us about honesty, patience, and a lot of things we need to learn for life through nature, animals, and people. I really loved it and I loved being around the horses." - Aliza
"My daughter came home excited and content every day. She is 10 years old and most of the lessons held her attention and kept her happy." -Parent
"My daughter was very excited to attend Daisy Chain each day! She came home filled with excitement and confidence about what she learned. She bonded with the animals and other youth and shared about our culture and made great friends." -Parent
"As a volunteer I loved the program and just experiencing how happy and exited everyone was to learn. I loved how interactive the lessons were and learning new things myself as a volunteer" -Volunteer
“As an intern at Daisy Chain I have already learned so much. Through helping with programs I have seen how in only an hour, a bond was formed between a girl and the horse she was working with, through trust and integrity. I have come to understand through Susan’s teaching how much horses are able to pick up on human emotions and intentions. This experience around these beautiful horses and out in the pasture learning through Daisy Chain, has changed how I respect the earth and my outlook on life. When I am at Daisy Chain Sanctuary everything else melts away, and I am forced to be truly present. Even if I am having a bad day, that is all left at the gate and I am left with a feeling of calm. These horses are truly amazing and therapeutic beings.” - Bella (intern from CU Boulder)
Daisy Chain provides a loving sanctuary where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can cultivate compassion and confidence through the innate bond between horses and humans, while deepening connections with the earth and each other.
Daisy Chain Sanctuary is dedicated to providing a sanctuary for retired and handicapped horses, giving them new roles as partners in healing, love, and growth. Our core programs include Magical Mini visits to nursing homes, schools, and community centers, bringing joy and therapeutic benefits. We also offer the Horse Connection Pass, a hands-on experience that fosters personal growth, compassion, and confidence through one-on-one interactions with our horses. The program starts at just $25/month and features 30-minute sessions, making it more accessible in both time and cost.
Currently, we have four resident horses, each playing a unique role in personal development. We strive to make our programs inclusive, with reduced rates for low-income families to ensure that everyone can experience the transformative bond between humans and horses.
2024: A Year of Connection, Growth, and Impact
This year has been marked by tremendous outreach and heartwarming success at Daisy Chain Sanctuary. We expanded our Magical Mini visits, bringing Pickles to up to three nursing homes each month and increasing school visits, with requests for second and third visits. These interactions have brought joy and therapeutic benefits to residents and students alike.
We also had excellent turnouts at key events:
The Farm Party of Connection and Compassion fostered community bonds, allowing attendees to experience the sanctuary’s mission firsthand.
The Barnyard Bash generated enthusiasm for our programs, including the new Horse Connection Pass, which saw eight signups at the event. We are excited to welcome more participants as this program continues to grow.
Events at Community Supper Club and Boulder Social highlighted community support, increasing awareness and funds for the sanctuary.
2023: A Focus on Aging Communities
We began a new chapter, collaborating with another nonprofit, Horses Make Miracles, and securing a grant from the NextFifty Initiative to offer programs for the 50+ community. We also continued to bring Pickles to nursing homes, schools, and shelters, spreading joy across diverse communities.
2022: Expanding Camps and Volunteer Opportunities
In 2022, we offered more camps and volunteer opportunities, specifically engaging teens, foster children, and families. Our programs provided hands-on experiences that emphasized life skills, with all activities based on groundwork, as some of our horses, like Daisy, are unrideable.
2021: Field Trips for Horizons Students
We hosted field trips for Horizons at Colorado Academy, welcoming 5th-8th graders for a day of connection and learning with the horses. We focused on teaching skills to help navigate life’s challenges, with the horses serving as teachers. All programs were centered on groundwork to ensure accessibility and safety.
2020: Community and Family Engagement
Throughout the summer, we welcomed families for mini visits, which provided respite and connection. We also launched a collaboration with Fostering Great Ideas' Siblink program, bringing separated siblings together for monthly fun. The first event was a middle sister's birthday celebration with three siblings—an experience full of joy and connection. We continued our partnership with Horizons, offering day camps for middle schoolers from low-income families.
2019: Launch of Day Camps
We launched our first day camp, where half the day was dedicated to learning about and working with horses, and the other half focused on environmental stewardship. One memorable day featured an expert from NREL teaching kids about greenhouse gases and carbon footprints, followed by building a solar oven to make s’mores.
