When you give to YVCF’s operating fund, you’re investing in the engine that drives lasting impact across our community. Your support allows us to manage charitable funds, award scholarships, provide education and funding to local nonprofits and champion initiatives that support a thriving, resilient community. Every dollar for operations helps YVCF amplify generosity, build capacity, and ensure that charitable dollars go further where they’re needed most.

YVCF has been designated by the State of Colorado as a community contribution project within the Northwest Colorado Enterprise Zone. Annual donations of $250 or more to the YVCF General Operating Fund and designated for Economic Development Initiatives qualify for the Colorado Enterprise Zone Tax Credit.  Learn more about the EZ tax credit here

TESTIMONIALS

“The Yampa Valley Community Foundation has been incredibly helpful to us as we increase our philanthropy in the Yampa Valley. It is a joy to work with an organization that truly lives its stated values and a team that is passionate about those values. YVCF makes a difference in both the community and to us. YVCF truly ‘connects people who care with causes that matter’. We are grateful to have them as our primary resource in fulfilling our charitable giving goals.”
- Brian and Nancy Jackson

"We're thrilled that we can simply pick up the phone and discuss and giving questions with Traci.  It's an added bonus that our fund fees support our local community foundation, rather than going to a large national organization. "
- Les and Linda Liman

"YVCF is an invaluable partner.  One way they've supported us is by providing a tailored fundraising training for our board.  Tim and Traci deepened our board's understanding of fundraising, strengthening our ability to help more children learn to read."
- Kim Schulz, Executive Director, Steamboat Reading

Giving Activity

Mission

Leading transformational change throughout the Yampa Valley by engaging donors in purposeful philanthropy, empowering local nonprofit organizations, inspiring impactful grantmaking, and collaborating to build vibrant communities.

Background Statement

In 1979, a group of local citizens formed the Yampa Valley Foundation to save the financially beleaguered Yampa Valley College. By 1983 the Foundation had successfully saved what is now the Colorado Mountain College, Steamboat Springs.

Between 1984 and 1995 the Yampa Valley Foundation served as a community based multi-purpose foundation, with a number of charitable funds and activities under its 501(c)(3) umbrella. In 1996, the Foundation reorganized and adopted a broader focus, adding "Community" to its name and purpose. As a Community Foundation the focus shifted to raising funds to be able to grant money to enhance education, arts and culture, health and human services, recreation and the environment in the Yampa Valley. The Foundation made this move by partnering with the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation (SSRC). SSRC provided a ski pass program, the "Passport Club", to the Community Foundation. Funds that were generated by selling memberships to the Passport Club helped pay the administrative costs of the Community Foundation and support grants to the community.
