Overview

At Worldmind Education we believe nature is the ultimate living laboratory, co-regulator, and equalizer. Through low-ratio, outdoor immersion and specialized support we empower neurodivergent, twice-exceptional (2e), and diverse learners across Denver Metro and Northern Colorado.

We know for a fact that traditional classrooms don't work for everyone. By taking education outside into regional open spaces, historic grounds, museums and other public works we replace sensory friction with confidence. We promote hands-on scientific discovery and social emotional resilience.

This Colorado Gives Day, your gift directly funds three essential initiatives that make our outdoor learning community accessible, sustainable, and equitable:

Pillar 1: Sensory on the Trail
Adaptive Outdoor Learning for Neurodivergent Youth

The Challenge: Traditional indoor environments frequently overwhelm twice-exceptional and neurodivergent youth with fluorescent lighting, constant noise, and rigid expectations. Yet standard outdoor recreation rarely provides the specialized decompression spaces or sensory regulation tools these students need to feel safe.

The Solution: Sensory on the Trail brings learning into Colorado’s public lands and regional open spaces. Guided by specialized outdoor educators in intentional small cohorts, students navigate public trails equipped with adaptive field packs and pop-up decompression shelters. Students build emotional endurance, self-advocacy, and field STEM skills without fear of overstimulation.

How Your Gift Helps:

  • $50: Equips a student with noise-dampening earmuffs, specialized field loupes, and tactile regulation tools.
  • $150: Funds a complete adaptive field pack (weighted lap pad, tactile sensory tools, and citizen-science monitoring gear).
  • $1,200: Funds a mobile, rapid-deployment sensory decompression shelter for trailheads and open spaces.

Pillar 2: The Living Heritage Grounds & Garden Lab
Ecological STEM at the Historic Milheim House

The Challenge: Urban children need daily, tactile connection to the natural world, while our historic 1890s Historic campus requires sustainable, regenerative care.

The Solution: We are cultivating our campus grounds into a functional, year-round urban ecology lab. Our elementary students spend the vast majority of their school day outdoors, actively managing cedar botany beds, studying soil microbiology, planting drought-resilient native pollinator gardens, and learning water stewardship on historic grounds.

How Your Gift Helps:

  • $45: Supplies native pollinator seeds, hand trowels, and soil test kits for student scientific field teams.
  • $100: Funds an all-weather gear subsidy (insulated boots and waterproof outer shells) ensuring cold weather is never an educational barrier.
  • $250: Builds and fills a child-height cedar raised botany bed with living soil and companion crops.
  • $500: Restores a native habitat plot with drought-resilient Colorado perennials and micro-drip irrigation.

Pillar 3: The Tuition Relief & Economic Access Fund
Removing Financial Hurdles for Working Families

The Challenge: Specialized outdoor schooling and low-ratio adaptive cohorts are transformative for twice-exceptional and neurodivergent children. However, specialized educational models are often financially out of reach for working-class and single-parent households.

The Solution: Our Tuition Relief Fund provides sliding-scale tuition scholarships and transit subsidies. We believe that access to specialized nature-based education must be driven by a child's developmental need, not their family's ability to pay.

How Your Gift Helps:

  • $75: Underwrites a student’s experiential field materials and lab curriculum fees for a full semester.
  • $250: Provides an emergency micro-grant tuition offset for a family navigating unexpected financial disruption.
  • $475: Covers a full cohort transit subsidy, removing the transportation barrier to regional open spaces and mountain trailheads.
  • $1,000: Underwrites a partial-tuition accessibility scholarship for a neurodivergent learner for an academic semester.

Mission

Worldmind Education empowers diverse and neurodivergent learners through immersive, nature-based education, hands-on environmental science, and trauma-informed community programming. By transforming Colorado’s natural landscapes and historic urban spaces into living classrooms, we cultivate ecological literacy, self-advocacy, and emotional resilience. We ensure every child, regardless of economic background or sensory profile, has barrier-free access to transformative outdoor learning.

Background Statement

While working on her graduate degree in Ecological Teaching and Learning at Lesley University, Megan Patterson discovered the Forest School model of learning and development. After teaching in public school settings all over the world for several years and conducting extensive research on the Forest School model of education, she knew this was the type of learning environment she wanted for her own son.

As part of her graduate thesis, Megan formed a group of passionate community members who came together to develop Worldmind and bring the outdoor-based education movement to the Greater Denver Area.
