In the Chinese Zodiac, 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse.
The Fire Horse is known for its powerful energy, courage, and determination. On their own, these qualities are impressive. But just like our horses, true strength doesn’t live in one individual—it lives in the herd.
Right now, our “herd” is hard at work preparing to move our adaptive riding and horsemanship program to a new barn of our own on the grounds of the Denver Polo Club. For the first time since our founding in 2008, we will not have to share space with other programs. We will have more space to serve more people and move people off our extensive waitlist!
There are ramps to build, stalls to outfit, equipment to gather, and a thousand small details to get just right so our clients and their families, volunteers, horses, and staff can settle into a space that is safe, welcoming, and accessible. It’s a big undertaking, and it’s one we simply cannot do alone.
This year is calling forth the Fire Horse in each of us—the part that shows up, leans in, and believes in what’s possible when we pull together. You are part of the strength and spirit that powers The Right Step, Inc.
Thank you for being in our herd and for helping us carry this vision forward to our new home!
Question: Why is The Right Step important to you?
"My son who has developmental disability and ADD, has grown so much in confidence,
strength, and ability since he started therapeutic riding at The Right Step" -Anonymous
"Therapy has helped Patrick physically, but the excitement that he gets when he reaches a new milestone in riding is just so cool. It has been huge blessing for us to find TRS!" -Lee D, parent
"Giving back to our community through this great non profit. Working alongside great
volunteers and instructors - I learn something new each day that I am at the barn! Seeing the amazing progress of our clients - to enrich their lives, give them confidence, overcome their fears, expand their abilities , and impact their life in such a positive way." -Debbie R., volunteer
"It's important to me because it's a place where I can find peace and a place where I can help those in need have time to be themselves without judgment." - Sabrina E., volunteer
"Because it is making an impact on someone else's day and bringing them joy and that makes me happy" - Abby K., volunteer
Question: What's the biggest impact this program has had on you/your family?
"I am blind and therefore horseback riding to me as a way of freedom. It's something I can do that frees my mind and all of my stresses. I can ride and not have to worry about anything except for staying on the horse. It's something I can do aware I don't have to go any where around the arena without a cane or arm holding. It's something I can do where I am just on horseback being guided by direction and via lead rope. For me horseback riding is a release of stress and the atmosphere there is always very happy and the people are always very kind." -Jessica S
"Working with the same client for over 3 years and seeing his progress, not only in his riding, but in all areas of his life." -Debbie R, volunteer
"It fills my soul. The horses are amazing and the strides that I get to see students make it is unbelievable. It is very therapeutic. I never imagined how much this would give back to me." -Karin O., volunteer
"I think the biggest impact is the change I have experienced in myself. I have grown from being uncomfortable in the presence of a 1000 lb. horse to working and handling a horse and loving every minute of it. There is just something magical about horses and you don't realize it until you work with them." - Julie B., volunteer
Our mission is to improve the lives of humans through the immeasurable power of horses with a vision of achieving excellence in the delivery of equine-assisted services while adhering to the values of compassion, connection, and trust.
We are a PATH, Intl. Premier Accredited Center that teaches riding skills and horsemanship in an adaptive manner to meet the individual needs of our clients with disabilities ages four through adult.
The Right Step, Inc. (TRS) was established in April of 2008 by the owners of Coventry Farms, a full-service hunter/jumper barn. They were looking for a way to give back to the community and had a population of aging school horses who could no longer jump but would benefit from regular low impact work. An adaptive riding and horsemanship program was the perfect solution! Our clients from young children to adolescents to adults to the elderly and veterans with disabilities benefit physically and emotionally/behaviorally from riding and the horses benefit from having such a great job (and the carrots and apples that many clients bring after lessons!). TRS was formally incorporated as a non-profit in December 2008 and moved to its current location at the beautiful Denver Equestrians Riding School in September 2019.
