Founded in 2014, Sun Valley Kitchen + Community Center (SVK+CC) is a trusted anchor in one of Denver’s most diverse and historically under-resourced neighborhoods. Here, over 94% of residents live in subsidized housing, the median family income is just $21,295, and unemployment reaches 35%. These challenges — compounded by rapid redevelopment — create urgent needs for food security, economic opportunity, and culturally relevant support.
SVK+CC responds through four core areas: Youth Empowerment, Community Engagement, Culturally Responsive Care, and Nutritious Food Access. We offer youth employment, Kids Cooking and Gardening Classes, Westside Athletics, mental health sessions, and the Chef Entrepreneurship Program, creating pathways to leadership, skill-building, and stability.
We also lead essential food initiatives like the No-Cost Grocery Program, community meals, and The Sun Valley Kitchen, a social enterprise restaurant providing job training while funding food programs. Our holistic wellness offerings — from acupuncture and chair yoga to sound healing and herbal workshops — honor cultural traditions while supporting physical, mental, and emotional health.
Just steps from Empower Field, we host signature events like the Sun Valley Viaduct Night Market and Harvest Festival, bringing thousands together to celebrate culture, local talent, and neighborhood pride.
Through this blend of programs, services, and community connection, SVK+CC empowers residents, strengthens neighborhood bonds, and ensures Sun Valley remains a thriving, resilient community for generations to come.
