Through our programs, we envision a thriving, resilient, and connected Sun Valley community, where every resident has access to resources, opportunities, and support to lead healthy, empowered lives as our neighborhood grows and transforms.
Founded in 2014, Sun Valley Kitchen + Community Center (SVK+CC) has become a cornerstone of support in Denver’s Sun Valley neighborhood, which faces significant challenges. With over 94% of residents relying on subsidized housing, a median family income of just $21,295, and a 35% unemployment rate, Sun Valley struggles with food insecurity, economic hardship, and limited resources.
Amid ongoing redevelopment towards a mixed-use neighborhood, SVK+CC serves as a vital community anchor, offering programs in four core areas: youth empowerment, community engagement, culturally responsive care, and nutritious food access. Programs range from youth employment and Kids Cooking and Gardening Classes to Youth Mental Health Sessions and Westside Athletics. SVK+CC also leads initiatives like the No-Cost Grocery Program, community meals, and the Chef Entrepreneurship Program to enhance health and economic opportunity.
Additionally, SVK+CC provides culturally responsive wellness services, such as acupuncture, chair yoga, sound healing, and herbal workshops, supporting holistic well-being. Located just south of Empower Field, SVK+CC hosts community-building events like the Sun Valley Viaduct Night Market and the Sun Valley Harvest Festival, fostering connection and belonging.
SVK+CC also operates The Sun Valley Kitchen, a social enterprise restaurant that provides job training and supports food access programs, helping meet the community’s evolving needs. Through this unique blend of support, SVK+CC empowers residents, strengthens connections, and fosters a thriving, resilient neighborhood for generations to come.
