What We Do

  • 🏡 Adoptions
    • We work to match every animal with the right family by focusing on temperament, personality, and needs. Before adoption, we make sure families are equipped with the information and resources they need to give their new pet the best chance at a happy, healthy life.We also offer a rehoming program for families who can no longer keep their pets.
  • 🐶 Lost & Stray Care
    • FMHS provides a safe place for lost or stray animals. We work hard to reunite pets with their owners and ensure they receive care while they wait.
  • 📚 Humane Education
    • We engage with the community to promote kindness, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of sterilization and immunization. Education is a core part of our mission.
  • 🎉 Events & Fundraising
    • FMHS hosts community events throughout the year—Barktober, Spayghetti & No Balls Dinner, Santa Paws, adoption events, fundraisers, raffles, and more. We also offer a Kennel Sponsorship Program, allowing individuals or businesses to sponsor kennels to help support ongoing shelter needs.
  • 🧡 Volunteers
    • Volunteers are vital to our work. From walking dogs and socializing cats to helping at events and fostering animals, community members play a huge role in our success.
  • 🐕 Leadership & Vision
    • FMHS is guided by a dedicated Board and team committed to high standards of care. Our members are hands-on and passionate about building a strong humane community.

Our Impact

  • Life-Saving Care: Since FMHS took over animal care in Fort Morgan, the local euthanasia rate has dropped dramatically and remains extremely low.

  • Adoption Successes: Many animals who came from neglect, abandonment, or uncertainty have gone on to live joyful, loving lives. Some have even become therapy or service animals.

  • Community Support: From supply drives to school projects, FMHS is supported by an incredible network of donors, students, volunteers, and local businesses who believe in our mission.

  • Special Programs: Grants, low-cost spay/neuter assistance, and community partnerships help us address pet overpopulation and keep animals healthier and safer across the region.

How You Can Help

  • Donate: Financial support keeps our doors open and allows us to provide medical care, food, shelter, and enrichment

  • Give Supplies: Blankets, towels, toys, food, and litter are always needed.

  • Sponsor a Kennel: Support the animals directly by sponsoring a kennel in our facility.

  • Volunteer or Foster: Your time and compassion help us save more lives.

  • Share Our Mission: Spread the word about adoptable pets, events, and ways to support the shelter.

Giving Activity

Mission

The purpose of the Fort Morgan Humane Society is the prevention of cruelty and neglect to animals, to relieve animals' suffering. spread the humane treatment of animals through education, and promote ethical treatment of all animals.

Background Statement

The Fort Morgan Humane Society officially organized in 2006. Prior to us, the city run facility had a 19% euthanasia rate similar to many municipalities. After the city agreed to let the Fort Morgan Humane Society take over the animal issue as a humane society the euthanasia rate dropped to BELOW 1%, classifying us as a "No kill" shelter according to state guidelines. Those animals euthanized because of insurmountable circumstances (court cases, extensive non-recoverable injuries, etc) make our hearts ache, but we keep working for the ones we can help. ALL animals are spayed or neutered before being adopted. And the results of this are shown in our decreasing Intake numbers. Our Board is a "working" board....always stepping in to fill the gaps. Many Board members have come and gone in 11 years. But the bottom line is that we ARE still here.
