Cat Care Durango

A nonprofit organization

We believe in the dignity and worth of every cat,
regardless of age, ability, or condition

Cat Care Durango is more than a shelter. We are a free-roaming rescue and sanctuary where cats of every age and medical need receive safety, skilled support, and love. From fragile newborns to chronically ill seniors, every cat who comes through our doors is treated as an individual and given what they need to flourish and, when ready, find a forever home.

Since opening in 2023, donor support has made it possible to rescue and care for more than 323 cats and kittens. Over 288 have been placed in permanent homes. Others, with complex medial issues, too elderly, or too fragile to be adopted, now live in lifelong sanctuary with comfort and stability.

Here in Southwest Colorado, the safety net for cats is thin. Limited spay and neuter access, rising veterinary costs, and too few adoption outlets mean more cats arrive abandoned, or overlooked. The need is growing, and we are seeing it every day.

You can help.

Your gift today helps provide urgent veterinary treatment, food, medications, and daily hands-on care for cats who have nowhere else to go. It allows us to say yes to the next stray, the mother cat with newborn kittens, or the senior who needs ongoing medical support and a calm, quiet place to call home.

When you give to Cat Care Durango, you are not supporting an idea. You are directly covering the real, daily needs that keep cats healthy, safe, and happy.

Please give today and help us say yes when the next cat comes to us in need.  Your donation can heal the past, and provide a future.

YOUR KINDNESS MAKES A DIFFERENCE. GIVE TODAY.

Giving Activity

Mission

To protect the welfare and dignity of all cats in every stage of their life through TNR (trap-neuter/spay-release) programs, proper medical care-both physically and mentally- and adoption, foster and sanctuary programs for our wild and peaceful feline friends.

Background Statement

Cat Care Durango is a PACFA certified, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming cats, founded in 2023 by Padgie Kimmick. Before launching Cat Care Durango, Padgie spent over 20 years providing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) services to the Durango area, passionately working to address cat homelessness and overpopulation in the Southwest region of Colorado.

Through her TNR efforts, Padgie recognized the critical need for a public, brick-and-mortar facility to serve as a hub for adopting cats in need of loving homes. In response and with the help from foundation grants and donations, Cat Care Durango opened a free-roaming facility. This unique, stress free environment allows cats to live and interact comfortably while awaiting adoption and helps potential adopters connect with their future feline companions. Check out the YouTube video in the Media Gallery below to learn more about our facility.

The cats rescued by Cat Care Durango come from a wide range of backgrounds and hardships, including abandonment, neglect, and homelessness. Many rescues are achieved through collaborative efforts with other non-profit organizations and through active community outreach. These partnerships and initiatives reflect Cat Care Durango's commitment to making a lasting impact on the lives of cats and the people who care for them.

Since opening in 2023, Cat Care Durango has rescued over 323 cats and kittens, finding loving homes for more than 288 of them. The organization's mission is to increase these numbers year over year, providing even more cats with the chance to live happy and healthy lives.
