Main Programs
Community Restorative Justice -
Your Story Your Power - a restorative theater program for youth to develop their identity, build positive relationships, and practice using their unique voice.
Relationships to Resilience - a school based program to deepen relationships between students, teachers, and school resource officers.
Community Group Conferencing - anyone in the community can refer a case - tough living situation with housemates or neighbors? Call us!

Training Institute -
Restorative Justice is based on relational human skills that can be learned and practiced. At BRITE we offer training to individuals, groups and organizations in building their relationships upon respect and responsibility so any time a harm occurs, repair and reintegration are the next natural steps. Our Training Institute offers skills to anyone in the community, groups and organizations, municipalities, and of course our volunteers.
Testimonials
“It stuck with him how some voices guided you into obstacles while others led you safely through. The takeaway about listening for the right voices really resonated with him. It touched my heart when I overheard him sharing that lesson with his younger brother.” –Parent of Responsible Person
“One of the best things about sending a case to BRITE is that you get face time with responsible parties. You get an opportunity to represent our profession so people can see us as more than police officers. They get to see us as human beings.” – Longmont Police Sergeant
BRITE's Impact on the Community:
Less than 10% of youth that are referred to an BRITE program by Longmont’s youth deflection program end up re-offending compared to Colorado and national rates upwards of 70% recidivism.
33% of youth who enter into the youth diversion program in Longmont are referred to one of BRITE’s programs.
Participant satisfaction with the Restorative Justice process is consistently over 95%. This includes responses from responsible parties, harmed parties, volunteer community members, referring school personnel, and law enforcement.
99% of participating harmed parties report feeling that the responsible party was held accountable for their actions through the Community Restorative Justice (CRJ) process.
90% of BRITE’s responsible parties complete their contracts. Staff members continually review CRJ eligibility criteria, evaluate the preparedness of volunteers to assist responsible parties in being successful, and assess the responsiveness of our case management services.
The City of Longmont REWiND team tracks rates of youth offense in Longmont and how BRITE’s work in the youth diversion program is able to reduce this number.
Each referred case costs on average $2,500 compared to $18,000 to keep a youth on probation for a year in Colorado or $140,000 per year for them to be incarcerated.
BRITE Collaborative strengthens communities and relationships, while contributing to equity, justice, and access by bringing restorative interventions to everyone.
Our Foundational Pillars
These pillars are derived from the work and heart of our founder, Dr. Beverly Title, who understood the foundation of Restorative Justice began with relationship, respect, responsibility, repair and reintegration, the 5 R’s of Restorative Justice.
Diversity Inclusion & Belonging
We acknowledge that traditional structures of power are inherently biased against marginalized groups. RJ recognizes that true justice requires that we identify and actively remove barriers that exist for certain groups of people in our community. RJ provides an alternative to the traditional justice system so marginalized voices can be heard, honored and elevated.
Relationship-Centered
We prioritize the cultivation of meaningful relationships among individuals and communities. These connections are the foundation for healing, understanding, and collective growth.
Respectful Engagement
Through respect for ourselves and others, we acknowledge the inherent worth and dignity of each person, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences, and through this acknowledgment we can create brave spaces for all stories to be heard.
Responsibility and Accountability
We honor the principles of responsibility and accountability by addressing harm as an essential component of the conflict transformation process.
Commitment to Repair
We strive for holistic repair that addresses the emotional, relational, and systemic impacts of harm to both responsible persons and harmed parties. We provide healing to those who were harmed by prioritizing and amplifying their voice in a way not provided in the traditional criminal justice system. Equally, we empower the responsible persons who have caused harm to make meaningful repair guided by their individual strengths.
Reintegration into Community
We believe in the potential for positive change and growth for every individual. Our commitment to reintegration honors the indigenous roots of restorative justice in which every person is valued and indisposable. When people are given the opportunity to remain integrated into their communities instead of isolated, we all benefit and our community is strengthened.
BRITE Collaborative is a 501(c)3 nonprofit formed under the name Teaching Peace. BRITE Co is a community-based nonprofit providing Restorative Justice services to the Longmont community since 1994. By collaborating closely with valued partners such as the City of Longmont, Longmont Department of Public Safety, and Longmont Children Youth and Families, BRITE Co has diverted countless youth and adults away from the criminal justice system. Our mission goes beyond the surface, addressing underlying needs that often contribute to criminal behavior.
Working hand in hand with local school districts and community organizations, BRITE Co extends its impact through comprehensive training. Empowering school staff, administrators, and School Resource Officers with the tools of restorative practices, fostering safer environments, preventing crime, and steering youth away from the life-altering impact of the criminal justice system.
