Caring for and managing Colorado’s water is a complex and demanding task. As a headwaters state, Colorado provides water to 18 other states and multiple millions of people. Our rivers are the lifeblood of ecosystems, riparian zones, wildlife populations and habitat, and communities big and small. The importance of maintaining healthy, resilient Colorado river systems cannot be overstated.

In the Arkansas and Gunnison River Basins, an impressive array of dedicated watershed-focused groups work to secure the quality and availability of Colorado’s water - but often with incredibly limited staff and resources. This essential work cannot be done without a steady stream of the right people to help. That’s where Blue Elements comes in.

We leverage the power of national service to provide critical person power to preserve the integrity of our water resources today and for generations to come. Blue Elements fosters community engagement in watershed stewardship, conducts water testing to provide updated information on local water quality, and provides professional development for the next generation of water leaders.

Mission

Our mission is to cultivate watershed stewardship and connect communities to the power of their water resources. We do this by placing the right people with the right partners for more powerful watershed protection.

Background Statement

Blue Elements is a watershed collaborative powered by community engagement, capacity expansion, workforce development and science.
