1 Love is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Maasai villages in Tanzania through education, women's economic empowerment, and the implementation of vital infrastructure projects, such as access to clean drinking water, electricity, and boreholes. Our current mission is to build a school in the village of Ormelili to provide quality education for Maasai children, preserve cultural heritage, and uplift the community from poverty. Having already provided electricity, clean water, and education to 14 children, we are now focused on expanding our efforts through this school project.

 Hi friends,

This Colorado Gives Day, I want to invite you to be part of something bigger — a legacy of love, hope, and opportunity.

When I started 1 Love, my dream was to help my Maasai community in Tanzania overcome the challenges I grew up with — no access to education, clean water, or electricity. Over the years, together we’ve built boreholes, brought light to villages, and given children the chance to go to school. None of this would have been possible without the kindness and generosity of people like you.

Legacy isn’t just about what we leave behind — it’s about the change we create while we’re here. Your support this Colorado Gives Day will help us continue empowering women, educating children, and building stronger communities.

From Colorado to Tanzania, your gift carries hope across the world. Together, we can keep building a legacy that lasts.

Mission

1 Love is dedicated to helping the Maasai people by educating the children, empowering the women, and creating opportunities for all!

Background Statement

1 Love was founded in 2018 by Angel Mollel, a Maasai woman who was born and raised in a traditional Maasai village in Tanzania. Growing up in a poor community, Angel faced many hardships, including the lack of access to basic necessities like clean water, electricity, and education. With 16 siblings, her family often struggled to provide enough food, and like many children in her village, Angel was tasked with helping around the home—herding cattle, collecting firewood, and caring for younger siblings. Despite these challenges, Angel’s father recognized the importance of education and made sure that she and her sister attended a small school in a neighboring village.

Angel’s love for learning was immediate, and she consistently ranked at the top of her class. Her life took a significant turn in 2012 when an American volunteer, who had spent time with her family, saw her potential and helped her move to the United States for a better education. Angel embraced this opportunity, despite the challenges of adjusting to a new country, language, and culture. She excelled academically, ultimately graduating with honors from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Media Production and a minor in Creative Technology and Design.

Although she found success in the US, Angel never forgot her roots. Each summer, she returns to Tanzania to visit her family and work on 1 Love’s projects. The nonprofit’s mission is deeply personal to her—1 Love aims to empower the Maasai people by improving access to education, alleviating poverty, and supporting Maasai women in creating sustainable jobs. All of this is done while respecting and preserving the Maasai culture and traditions that Angel cherishes.

Under Angel’s leadership, 1 Love has already brought clean drinking water, electricity, and education to various Maasai villages. Its current focus is on building a school in the village of Ormelili, where many children, like Angel once did, face significant barriers to education. The school will have seven classrooms and serve as a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty in the community.

Angel’s story is one of resilience, gratitude, and determination. Now a US citizen, she balances her work with FOX 31 News with her passion for giving back to her people in Tanzania. Through 1 Love, Angel Mollel is helping to create a brighter future for the Maasai, empowering them with opportunities they’ve never had while maintaining the cultural values that define their community.
