Bike Camp teaches campers how to maintain their bikes, plan their routes, set personal goals, debrief about their successes and challenges, and, most importantly, how to have FUN and be SAFE on two wheels! A two-week summer camp designed around all things bicycles. Our outstanding camp counselors and Bikes Together Volunteers lead children on a quest for adventure and knowledge while teaching them bicycle maintenance skills and how to safely navigate an urban environment on two wheels. This includes hands-on instruction by expert mechanics and daily safely designed city bike rides between 3 and 40 miles. Our camps run during the summer months and are two weeks long, Monday thru Friday, serving over 250 children ages 7-18.

Approximately 260 kids participate in Bike Camp each summer.

Evidence of Program's Success

In 2018, Fix Your Bike Hours had an average of 700 visits per month in the summer and 300 visits per month in the winter between both locations! We have every reason to expect this number to increase in 2019, especially given the growth in popularity of the Mariposa location in the La Alma/Lincoln Park neighborhood. This means 700 instances of people getting their hands on their own bikes, learning (and teaching!) new mechanical skills, sharing tools & resources, fixing instead of throwing something away, and biking instead of walking or driving.

Evidence of Program's Success

Hundreds of class participants have learned essential skills that helped get them on bikes and keep them riding - often times this enables people to use biking to get to school, work, or a transportation option they otherwise would not have. Bikes Together has a long track record of return customers, and class participants who keep coming back to learn more - and some who want to get more involved and become volunteers.
