Testimonials

"Dear Mudras, Every few years you put on a production -- one that excels and pushes the boundaries further and in return leaves behind a highly entertaining, engaging and meaningful show! From a musical standpoint, the entire percussion team, musicians and vocalists all brought
Gyaan to life in a whole different and amazing way. Live musical certainly trumps recordings. You have no idea what it takes for a DJ to say that ;) The lighting and visuals complimented what was going on stage in terms of the theme behind the characters and telling a meaningful story without
words. Loved how they had those massive displays and then went on to use it to light the stage up like giant LED cubes! The outfits, makeup and accessories, classy and gorgeous -- that entire team backstage deserves massive respect for all their hard work and detail. The stage always had my
attention -- i really liked how gracefully the transitions were handled between scenes, the performers that was mostly on stage to add to the presence including daddy Nariani (he just killed it!). Honestly, I felt like on a production level, there was way more plot and connection performers
had with Gyaan -- which raised what each of the lead mudras had to bring to the table -- with respect to choreography, acting skills and energy. This was a SHOW!! It was refreshing, entertaining and amazing - yes it was choreographically heavy but it was RICH in content too, this is always something i've appreciated about you guys. Can't wait for next year, possibly with the little one on board, fingers crossed. Much love for the kind words and mention on the production handout as well! Deepest thanks to all on the team, do pass on my compliments xx Go Mudras!"

Mission

To enable any person, without any discrimination of caste, creed, color, race, religion, nationality, economic, gender orientation, educational and social status; to learn the classical, contemporary and folk dances and performing arts of India and participate freely and fully without any reservations in the celebrations of life and diversity through the universal language of dance and music.

Background Statement

The Founder and President Namita Khanna Nariani started Mudra Dance Studio (MDS) as a private dance school in 1993 with only three students. MDS was incorporated as a Colorado Non-Profit Corporation in March 2002 and was granted Tax-Exempt Organization status under IRS 501(c)(3) in July 2003.

Over the years, MDS has had an increase in the number of students, teachers, and classes for different age groups: from the tender age of three to the mature age of 60 plus; and an increase in locations of these classes, MDS primarily teaches the classical dance form of "KATHAK" which is derived from the word "KATHA", meaning story-telling.

"KATHAK" is a beautiful blend of the two primary elements of dance: "ABHINAY" the communication of emotions through facial expression; and "NATYA" the rhythmic movement of the body and feet with a beautiful combination of multiple rhythmic CHADAARS (turns or twists). The CHADAARS are in multiples of three and nine.

KATHAK is on of the seven well known classical dance forms of India, which trace back to 6000 BC and over the years have metamorphosed by cultural and geographical influences, MDS also teaches folk dances from different regions of India and contemporary Indian dance, now classified as "MUDRA STYLE" as aprt of its curriculum.
