Background Statement
El Paso County Search and Rescue (EPCSAR) is a mountain search and rescue team dedicated to saving lives through search, rescue, and mountain safety education.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, our team depends upon contributions from individuals, groups, firms, and agencies interested in supporting its work. El Paso County Search and Rescue does not receive regular funding from local, state, or federal governments. Our team is staffed 100% by non-paid professionals that respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. There is never a charge to a subject for our services or expenses.
EPCSAR provides search and rescue services primarily in El Paso County, Colorado, under the authority of the El Paso County Sheriff. However, the team also responds to requests for assistance from other counties through a cooperative arrangement with the Colorado Search and Rescue Association (CSAR). We maintain certification through the international Mountain Rescue Association (MRA). Our team, ranging from 50 to 80 members, serve in various roles while working towards a single goal: saving lives.
Composed entirely of volunteers, we are available upon request to help mountain search and rescue problems anywhere in Colorado under the authority of the local county sheriff or in other states and countries under local authority. We also provide information and lectures on mountain safety to interested individuals and groups. Our team prides itself on its many years of humanitarian service and reputation for capability and safety.
