Testimonials

"I had been looking for work of over a year and felt I was stuck in other agency's paperwork and numbers. On several occasions, I wanted to quit and give up but then I found the Women's Resource Agency. There was always someone around who provided me unconditional support and encouragement. I began working on July 23, 2014 but then had an unfortunate house fire that destroyed many of my belongings. WRA took me right back in for additional work outfits and accessories. This agency has so much to offer and I for one will be your main supporter." Nancy Abitia

Mission

Women's Resource Agency empowers women and girls to attain and maintain personal self-sufficiency and economic indepedence.

Background Statement

Founded in Colorado Springs in 1972 and incorporated in 1977, the Women's Resource Agency, Inc. ("WRA") was organized to give the women of the Pikes Peak Region skills and tools to create a better life. By increasing the employability, healthy choices, and well-being of women, WRA is a cornerstone of support for the overall economic success of the Pikes Peak Region. Through passionate and effective leadership, competent staff and engaged volunteers, WRA offers a sustainable approach to helping women achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency. WRA is distinct in its holistic and personal approach with its clients. To strengthen its original emphasis of giving women skills to find and sustain employment, WRA has added foundational elements to its focus. By developing the life skills of nutrition, stress management, professional groups, and career dressing services (through Dress for Success International), WRA recognizes the deeper dimensions of success for women. WRA grew its influence and breadth when it began looking to the future through its InterCept programs for low income, at-risk middle and high school girls. Initiated in 1998, the InterCept program is a proactive measure toward positive outcomes in adulthood through support for completing high school and increasing positive life choices. This preemptive program guides girls toward graduation, better financial possibilities and future self-sufficiency. For girls that have made negative choices, the InterCept 2 Program provides 10 sessions to build life and critical thinking skills to develop healthy choices. It is the only alternative sentencing program of its kind statewide.
