Testimonials

Erin Frazier, Parent: Westgate is whole-child school that uses activity-based learning and grouping for grades and abilities so that students are in a space of challenge, but still with their peers. It values service to the community, and maintaining knowledge and skills from year-to-year.

Christopher McNeal, Parent: Wonderful program for gifted and talented. Lots of club activities for after school, progressive homework policy and our kids love their teachers! Parents are very active in the success of both the school and supporting the teachers. Admin is very hands on and transparent with the direction of the school, welcoming community input.

Mission

At Westgate Community School, gifted education is provided to all students in a community that nurtures the whole child, empowers students to be authentic, supports individuals in reaching their own academic goals, develops stewardship for the environment, and inspires passion for serving the global community.

Background Statement

Back in early 2009, a group of parents sat around a kitchen table and talked about the kind of school they wanted for their children. They wanted a school that focused on gifted education for the whole child. A school that supported the student's mind, body and community. In the summer of 2009, this group received approval from Adams 12 Five Star District to start a charter school and Westgate's first students began in the fall of 2009.

After several successful years, Westgate moved into our own building and this is where we plan to stay. The building was formerly a business and did not have a playground or any school amenities. But it did have room to grow and allowed the school to add a grade a year and serve K-12 students.

From 2012 to 2019, the school leadership and a team of volunteers utilized fundraising and grant awards to transform the property into a K-12 school with playgrounds, and over six acres of environmental educational space that includes garden beds, a chicken coop, a goat loafing shed, bee hives and open space.

Westgate is a small school with BIG ideas.
